Brief History of LDYE
The Little Delaware Youth Ensemble (LDYE) was established in 2000 by Julie Signitzer, Deanna Palumbo and a dedicated group of parents who shared the goal of creating an institution where promising young string players could come together to learn and grow as musicians and to gain ensemble experience unavailable elsewhere in their home area in rural central New York. From its modest beginning with fewer than 15 families, LDYE has more than doubled in size over the past 10 years. Today, LDYE is an enduring institution that nurtures the talents of student musicians from five counties in central New York. Because most local schools in the area do not offer string programs, LDYE is the only ensemble experience available for these talented young musicians. The group rehearses in Oneonta one evening each week and performs four public concerts annually.

LDYE is particularly grateful for the support of the late John Taylor “Jack” Wadsworth, whose vision, inspiration and generosity were instrumental in promoting LDYE and placing it on a strong and sustainable foundation. Jack and his wife, Rose, came to Delhi as seasonal residents in 1978 and quickly became familiar faces at local businesses, community events and garage sales. Upon his retirement from Bankers Trust/Deutsch Bank, where he had a 35-year career, Jack and Rose made Delhi their permanent residence. Jack was the third President of the LDYE Board of Directors, and also lent his wisdom, grace and humor to a number of other arts and cultural organizations in the region. He worked tirelessly and with passion to ensure the success of the ensemble.

Jack passed away in February, 2008. He is irreplaceable and is sorely missed by the many whose lives he touched.

LDYE’s June 8, 2008 concert was dedicated to the memory of Jack Wadsworth.
